"My practice is primarily painting; for the moment, I utilise digital imagery as a way of exploring the drawing process, by accessing imagery through my Instagram feed as point of reference, as trigger points, I try to shift these ideas through the process of paint, a process of removal and defacing, ghost layers may seep though the surface, part of the work itself, could possibly be that subconsciously I am holding onto the previous females within the surface, perhaps shrouding them into another female."

Sarah Jane Hender is a multidisciplinary artist that tries to challenge the cultural dominance of the male gaze by more powerfully and positively depicting the female perspective, whilst also challenging female tropes and possible damaging impact on women’s self-image and self-worth.
