Belmin’s work is driven to draw critical attention to the way in which we express ourselves romantically in the modern age. Drawing influence from classical Turkish poems and making visual references to symbolic flowers she wants us to consider the intimacy that humans previously applied to romance.
Through using blind embossing (without the use of colour) and applying her work to pure white paper Belmin’s processes reflect her subject matter. The reflecting abstract subject onto gently textured paper creates shadows and a sense of fragile intimacy, while using strong colours invokes a visualisation of profound feelings.
