Dominik Wiecek
MA Industrial Design – Central Saint Martins, 2021
Dominik Wiecek is a multidisciplinary designer with a background in Silversmithing & Jewellery obtained during his BA studies at the London Metropolitan University. During his studies, he explored the subject and merge the handmade with machine-made. Soon after BA, he started to design functional objects for home decoration in various materials that led him to study MA in Industrial Design at Central Saint Martins.
His practice is a conjunction of design and art where he fuses the functionality of the object with artistic expression. Objects designed are made to be visible, to be interesting and to be in the spotlight as much as he evades social presence, creating the expression of his alter-ego. Objects follow the canons of design as form and function accompany artistic expression which often adds colour and texture to the object designed.
The use of technology in creation is crucial to Wiecek’s practice merging machine-made, and hand made. Pieces often resemble repetition, colour, composition, and function to follow canons of design.
