BA Surface Design, London College of Communication 2015
Originally from Italy, Isabella knows more than most that dinner-times and eating together are very important; her tableware pieces are influenced by the idea of families and friends sitting around the dining-room table sharing stories together. 'So I ran away to Kensington Gardens and lived a long, long time among the fairies.' is based around the story of Peter Pan and was developed from her photographs and drawings from parks around London. The designs are extremely imaginative and seem to capture the magical, nostalgic feel that hearing childhood stories evokes.
Isabella enjoys using a mix of different materials, surfaces and textures and experimenting. During her studies she developed a strong interest in screen-printing onto textiles and paper surfaces but is always embellishing them or foiling her designs as she believes that the extra touch can bring the work to life. She has found ceramics can be a challenging medium but loves the happy accidents (especially with colours.) The other joy Isabella has found in designing homeware is seeing her pieces being used in the home, rather than designing something that can’t be touched.
"I’m still learning and developing what I like doing and my strengths and weaknesses as a designer, but I've really learnt how important drawing is and try to do as much as I can-even if it is a doodle on the tube on the way home."
