Sabrina Shah Hakim
MA Textile Design, Chelsea College of Arts 2015
Initial, finding her identity as an artist was a difficult task. Sabrina admits that she was excited by everything but was unable to focus on anything. However, she knew that her love for art started with drawings and observation and she finally found her place in textiles. Although printing in a textile context is principally related with fabric, the course has also allowed Sabrina to understand other materials and mediums and her understanding of colour has also developed through her years in BA Textile Design at Chelsea, which is evident in her work.
The Deco Collection is very sentimental to Sabrina because this was the first collection that she feels truly reflected her identity. Now on the MA at Chelsea, Sabrina is taking her development further by challenging herself in the world of sustainability within textile. Her ‘goal’ is to find alternative ways to create designs with a more eco-conscious root.
"My works have no restrictions to fashion or interior design; they are simply designs that can slot in anywhere, I feel I have an ability to create something individual and unique out of anything."
