"Developed during the coronavirus pandemic, this work took inspiration from alleyways that were local to my home at the time and formed a part of my local exercise walks. In the circumstances, I had the time and space to really observe these often forgotten and taken-for-granted pieces of land.
I found myself drawn to the exaggerated perspectives of shape in the alleyways and to the illusion of space getting narrower and narrower. I was particularly drawn to the fence panels, which appeared to reduce in size as the spaces narrowed.
I was also amazed by the unexpected but beautiful selection of colours I found, with greens, purples and oranges evident upon observation. In all, the alleyways were a rich source of inspiration for the development of textile pieces. This work forms part of a wider knitted and woven collection of interior installations/artworks, which were developed in response to my research into these alleyways."
