"Tugboat is a transcription of George Bellows' 'Men of the Docks'. The painting is representational of men seeking labour at the docks in the early 1900's. I love the composition of the men and the phallic symbols depicted by the steam liner, tugboat and erect structures in the background. These are elements I wanted to portray in a contemporary painting and looked at how the docks became a place for sex work and cruising".
